WEST POINT – Sherman Barnes Waite, 86, passed away March 23, 2016 at his
home with his wife and daughter by his side. He built his own home on the farm where he was born August 05, 1929 to Alvin Barnes Waite and Anna Frew, seventh in a
family of ten. Sherman was raised in West Point, where he lived his entire life,
attended Syracuse Elementary, North Davis Jr. High and graduated from Davis
High School in 1947. He obtained business education at Weber College, University of Utah, BYU, Ohio State, and LaSalle Extension University in higher accountancy and CPA training.

Sherman married Dorothy Ruth Parkin, Bountiful, UT September 1, 1948 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Their focus in life centered on son, Lloyd, and daughter, Janelle, with seven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. They are faithful members in the LDS faith, have served in many callings and have reared their family to serve the Lord. Sherman was a High Priest in the West Point 4th ward.

Sherman served in the US Air Force as a Supply Specialist during the Korean
Conflict and retired from Hill Air Force Base as a Logistics Engineer. After that, he enjoyed 28 years as a volunteer tax preparer and instructor in the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program. He received the Silver Bowl Award from Utah Governor Oleen Walker for this and other volunteer work. He also started a volunteer Ward dance band which grew to become a professional band. He loved music.

Diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at age 21, Sherman has fought an amazing battle for 65 years, never giving in to the devastating effects of this debilitating disease. He always looked for ways to serve others, never letting MD get in the way of helping someone else. His “never quit attitude” was an example to his
family and all who knew him. We will always remember the example he set for us.

Sherman leaves behind his wife, daughter, Janelle [Keith] Stratford, daughter-in-law, Karen Waite, grandchildren, Jill [Douglas] Morrill, Deanne [Dan] Jacobs, Steven [Stacey] Waite, Brian [Brittany] Stratford, Melanie [Tyler] Wangsgard, Stacy [R.J.] Martin, Shane [Kenzie] Stratford; three siblings, Carma [Norman] Sedgwick, ArDeane [Sid] Yeates, Sharone [Glen] Belnap, and twenty five great-grandchildren.

Preceding Sherman are his parents, son Lloyd Sherman [Karen] Waite, and six siblings: Wilda Norris, Rex, Arvid, Verl, Jean llean Warren, and Nina.
