Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor, Sherma Naomi Daley Poulsen, 96, was called back to her heavenly home and reunited with her beloved eternal companion on Christmas Day, 2021. She was born on September 28, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, a cherished daughter of Ross Sherman and Laura Naomi Daley.
She was a graduate of Ogden High School and attended Superior Beauty School. She met her future husband at the Quality Dry Cleaning Company when she applied for work there in the summer of 1943. Although she had no experience, she was hired as a cashier-counter worker.
Mom and Dad began dating in 1945 and were married June 24, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. They went on a fun honeymoon with another couple, Max Storey and Ruie McElroy, who chaperoned them to Nevada for their wedding. After they were married, Max and Ruie decided to take the plunge themselves and got married as well. The two couples traveled on to San Francisco and down the coast to Los Angeles. They visited Las Vegas on their way back home to Utah. They had such a fun time—even though they returned home without a dime to their names.
This marriage was miraculously blessed with two sons, Sanford and Michael. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden, Utah Temple on January 11, 1986.
She loved cooking too. She will be missed for her famous beautiful homemade pies which were delicious! She enjoyed working in the Cashier’s Office at McKay-Dee Hospital where she was employed for 27 years. Throughout her life, she was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She felt very blessed to have the best neighbors in the world.
She enjoyed her service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of her beloved callings was serving in the Ward Young Women’s Presidency. At the ripe age of 72, she hiked with the young women in her ward to the top of Malan’s Peak. Everyone was both shocked and surprised that she made it to the top alongside the young women and other leaders who were much younger than she was.
She was a woman of faith, family, hard work, and integrity. She had a deep abiding relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, which was manifested in her daily prayers. Her pride and joy was her family, and she looked forward to their daily visits.
She is survived by her two sons, Sanford (Julie) Poulsen and Michael (Suzy) Poulsen. She’s survived by ten grandchildren: Kariann Olsen (Brady); Ryan Poulsen (Katie); Katelin Nicholls (Jaran); Karlie Stratford (Kelly); Anthony Poulsen (Afton); Austin Poulsen (Jessie); Makenzie Wilbur (Kevin); Makall Hoogendoorn (Noah); Aaron, and Makae Poulsen—along with 18 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Sherma was preceded in death by her husband (Vernon), two brothers (Stephen and Keith), and her sister Laura.
If unable to watch at this time the service will be on Myers Mortuary website indefinitely.
