Shelia Renee Foster third child born of the late Mr. Lonzel Davis, Sr. and Mrs. Thelma Davis. Born March 12, 1954 in Birmingham, AL. She transitioned from this life on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 1:13pm. She was a teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Groveland Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Rev. James E. Foster on August 30, 1975 and became a devoted member of Canaan MB Church. To this union three children were born; Myron, Victor, and Vickie.
While at Canaan she served as a Deaconess, sang in the Adult Choir, assisted with the Hospitality Ministry, and gave a helping hand where ever she could. She always showed her family and others her unrelenting support in their various endeavors.
Shelia received her formal education in the Birmingham City School System. She was a 1972 graduate of Woodlawn High School. She went on to further her education at Alabama A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and a Master’s degree in Home Economics Education. Her career as a teacher at Alabama A&M University included teaching and directing the Child Development Center. She retired from this job in 2013. She will be remembered for her love of college football and for being an avid supporter of her alma mater Alabama A&M University.
Shelia loved to educate and give wisdom to others to help them live a better life. She had a profound knack for problem solving. She adamantly pushed her children and those around her with this statement, “Use your head for something other than a hat rack.” Also, she loved to cook and had many sought after recipes. She loved to try new things, travel, and cherished a good laugh. She would often say once her tickle box got turned over, it was hard for her to get herself together!
