Shelba Jean Tatum, age 84, of Springville, Alabama passed away at home on Sunday, June 26, 2022. She was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Shelba was born on September 1, 1937, in Tishomingo County, Mississippi to the late L.J. and Flora Abel.
Shelba was preceded in death by her parents, her younger sisters Velma Hodge and Kathleen Harris, her mother-in-law Faye Tatum Tidwell, brother-in-law Bobby Burleson, brother-in-law Jimmy Tatum, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Tatum.
Shelba is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57-1/2 years, Luther Thomas Tatum, Jr.; sons, Larry Tatum (Leslie), Kelly Tatum (Angela); grandchildren Tanner Tatum (Taylor), Noah Tatum, Lindsey Tatum, Lana Tatum; brother-in-law Fred Harris, sister-in-law Joy Burleson and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1956, Shelba worked for Southern Coach parts from 1956-1968. She later met Luther Thomas Tatum, the love of her life in 1960 and they got married on December 11, 1964. Shelba also worked for Durr-Fillauer Medical and later for Alabama Orthopedic Spine where she retired in 2005 after 16 years of service.
Shelba was a member of Deerfoot Church of Christ. She was such a faithful Christian lady who loved God and her church family. Shelba was also known as “Minnie” to her grandchildren whom she loved and adored.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff with Lakeside Hospice for their care and compassion during Shelba’s illness and would also like to thank Dr. Allen Yeilding and all his staff for their compassionate care and treatment.
