Sheila J. (Walker) Porter, 64, of Upton, died Monday, September 17, 2007 in Milford Regional Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of John F. Porter and a nurse practitioner who specialized in healthcare within the state’s correctional system.
Mrs. Porter was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Norman E. and Alice G. (Horgan) Walker, and was a lifelong Upton resident. She was a graduate of Nipmuc Regional High School, attended Boston University and Quinsigamond Community College, and earned advanced degrees in nursing at Framingham State College.
Active in civic affairs, Mrs. Porter had served on the Upton Conservation Commission and the Board of Health, was a member of the Upton Youth Club, taught swimming lessons, and volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Parish.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, she leaves three sons and their families, John Porter, Jr. and his wife Ellen of Northborough, William Porter, his wife Darlene and son Ryan, and Kevin Porter and his wife Kelly and three children, Haley, Corey and Skye, all of Upton; a daughter, Amy L. Porter of Coventry, CT; and her sister, Mary E. “Betsy” Ferris and her husband Charles “Bud” Ferris, Jr. of Harwich.
