Sheila Freeman was born on August 16, 1952 in Harlem, New York and transitioned to Glory on April 24, 2020 in Staten Island, New York, She was the oldest of four born to Clarence and Mary Emma Freeman. Sheila was preceded in death by her only brother Clarence Tyrone Freeman, and is survived by her beloved life partner Michael Baker, her daughter Denise S. Greene, her parents Mary Emma Freeman and Clarence Freeman, her sister’s Gina T. Carr (Alonzo) brother-in-law, Pamela A. Glover (Glen) brother-in-law; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, cousins, other family and friends.

Sheila spent a considerable amount of her time in Wildwood and Cape May, NJ where her mother was born and extended family still reside. Sheila enjoyed traveling to South Jersey as well as frequent trips to the Poconos in Pennsylvania. She spent substantial time in Jamaica Queens, Brooklyn, Harlem, Bronx and in her final location in Staten Island, NY she was known as “The Staten Island Lady”.

In life, Sheila was an intellectually curious person. She was the one who would ask the question’ why’ or ‘ how come’. She enjoyed vigorous debate on political, societal and whatever the issues of the day were. Sheila had a knack for investigating and researching things and this would serve her and others around her well in life as she loved to help others to resolve sticky problems with agencies and bureaucracies.

Sheila was a helper and thinker by nature. She loved to help people. Being the oldest child , she was often given the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings as they grew up. Sheila was a giver. Whatever she had she would share with others. She would give the shirt off her back to help others. Food, clothing, shelter…whatever was needed, she gave. She had an inspiring creativity of making things from seemingly nothing and giving them to family and friends.

Sheila loved music, particularly old school Soul and R & B.
Sheila also loved her birds. Mike and her birds were her constant companions.

Sheila loved and was loved immensely by those around her. Her laughter and smile and giving spirit will forever be missed by all who have been touched by her presence. We will miss you, but your soul and spirit will be carried with us each day we live and breathe…God Bless you
