Those left to honor Sharon’s memory include her husband, Robert of Newton; sons, Martin Schaffer of Newton and Jason Schaffer of Des Moines; her daughter, Melissa (Roger) Gilchrist of Newton; her grandson, Jacob Gilchrist of Newton; and two brothers, Leo (Beth) Ballard of Corydon and Harlan (Nancy) Ballard of Mt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Wilma (Askren) Ballard.
Sharon graduated from Chariton High School in 1962. She worked as a CNA for 40 years, with 20 of those years being at Skiff Medical Center.
She was a member of the Arthritis Foundation and Iowa Caregivers’ Association.
