Sharon Marie Poeppe, 75, of Algona, passed away on October 14, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Sharon was born in Cresco, IA on September 14th, 1940, to Lester and Bernece (Kapler) Priebe. She graduated from Kuemper High School in Carroll, IA in 1958. On January 16th, 1960, she married her husband Ray Poeppe at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Ames.
Sharon worked as a secretary for the Iowa State University Atomic Energy Commission. Ray became a Borden’s milk distributor which prompted their move to Algona in 1961. In 1972, they became the owners of Pep’s Place in downtown Algona, an establishment they operated for 23 years. Ray and Sharon also owned the State Hotel for many years which later became the State Street Antique Mall.
Sharon had worked as a police dispatcher for the Algona Police Department for the last several years. It was a job she truly loved. She also enjoyed playing the organ for Masses at St. Cecelia’s Parish, sewing, cooking, antique shopping, being outdoors among nature, and spending time with her family. Sharon is survived by her husband Ray, of Algona, son Doug (Kim) Poeppe of Algona, son Darren (Julie) Poeppe of Titonka, daughter Danielle (Jeff) Andersen of New Ulm, MN, daughter Dena (Larry) Evers of Forest City, grandsons Jared (Lauren) Poeppe, Mark Poeppe, Joshua Poeppe, Adam Poeppe, Ethan Poeppe, Luke Poeppe, Caleb DeRoos, Samuel Evers, granddaughters Jessie DeRoos, Sara Poeppe, sister Carol (Jim) Heffernen of Cedar Rapids, nephew Michael Heffernen, and niece Molly Heffernen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Bernece Priebe of Cedar Rapids, and one great-grandson, Phoenix Alan Connor Evers.
