Sharon Nowak, of Anchorage, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born October 16, 1943 in Plymouth, Michigan to Ortt and Maud (McCreight) Sprague.

Sharon loved music and was a polished flutist. Sharon had a bachelors in music education from Eastern Michigan University. She married David in 1973. They began their marriage by moving to Anchorage, AK where Dave was stationed. They decided to stay in Alaska and raise their family.

Sharon taught elementary band for 30 years. She also taught many private flute students. She retired in 1996 from teaching, but remained active in the music community, playing in musical groups including Flutissimo, the Fair Weather Flutes, the Anchorage Community Concert Band, the St. Anthonys Catholic Church guitar group, the German Band, and the Front Row Seats Band. Sharon received the Alaska Music Educator of the Year in 1997. Her loss will be profound in the Anchorage music community.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myrna and her brother Lloyd. Sharon is survived by her husband, David, daughters, Sharida and Rebecca, granddaughters Lainey and Kelsey, her sister Anne Bingman, her brother Ed Sprague, her granddogs Chloe and Lulu, along with many nieces and nephews and many friends who Sharon called family.
