Sharon E. Broadnax, age 73, was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 21, 1947 and departed this life for her heavenly home on September 28, 2020 at home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
As a mother, she gave her all and supported every activity her girls were involved in. She defied the definition of single mother, providing her girls with childhoods filled with wonderful experiences and memories that they will cherish the rest of their lives. She shaped the women, mothers and professionals they are. The love she poured into them overflowed, covering their children and their children’s children. There was not an event that she did not participate in. She was their example of strength, grace, courage and perseverance in everything she did.
She loved her family above anything else, and did not miss an opportunity to celebrate them. She loved to travel and held fond memories of her trips to Canada, Florida, Mexico, New York, and Philadelphia with them. There was not a basketball, football, soccer, or lacrosse game or a wrestling match that you would not find her cheering on her grandchildren. She loved going to their grandparent days at school, and was extremely proud of the young adults they have become. Anyone she knew, knew all about Tico, Tyler and Frankie and their successes.
There was not a day that went by that she allowed her diagnosis to stop her from living her life to the fullest. She loved going to the movies, traveling to Easton Mall, enjoying live concerts, attending farmer’s markets and going to her great granddaughters schools for concerts, grandparents day, Thanksgiving celebrations and the like.
Sharon pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Nu Phi Citywide Chapter at Franklin University. Her sorority was near and dear to her heart. Sharon retired from the State of Ohio and finished her career at Vutech & Ruff in 2014. Since her retirement, she spent her days loving on her family and friends, shopping, and enjoying life to its fullest.
Sharon was blessed with a loving family, and was preceded in death by her grandmother Della Ervin; mother Laura L. Murrell; and aunt Ramona McNeal. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Denise (Rev. Edward) Lewis, and Nicolle (Sheila) Cordell-Evans; grandchildren, Thomas B. W. (Mary) Paige, Tyler L. Cordell (Alexandra Bassetti), Benjamin F. White, III and Edward K. Lewis, Jr.; great granddaughters Michelle M. Paige and MaKenzie V. Paige; great grandsons Edward Dembe Lewis and Suubi Lewis; aunts Marvine Germany and Aleatha Germany; and family and friends from across the country. She is also survived by best friends Eloise Walker and Charlotte Bridges and her bonus daughter and caregiver Fatoumata “Fatima” Traore who took amazing care of her for the past four years.
