Sharon Mariece Adair Andrus, 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away quietly in her home in Brigham City, Utah, December 20th, 2012. She had been battling cancer for more than a year.

Sharon was born March 27, 1935 in Tropic, Garfield County, Utah, to Rhea Cope and Vivian Adair. Her childhood years were spent living in Tropic, as well as Bingham, Utah, Draper, Utah and Salt Lake City. She had many fond childhood memories of Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park, where she enjoyed many extended stays with her grandparents. She also has fond memories of her early teen-aged years in Draper.

She attended West High School in Salt Lake City, where she was active in drama and debate and was a member of the a capella choir. She married Calvin Scofield Andrus in 1953 and they relocated from Utah to Seattle, Washington. She worked hard to support her husband as he attended college and also as a mother of four young children that were born during that time. The family moved to Brigham City, Utah in 1959, and then moved to Huntington Beach, California in 1962. Three more children were born during the four years that the family lived in southern California. In 1966, the family returned to Brigham City and purchased the home in which Sharon and Calvin would both live for the remainder of their lives.

Sharon had a sharp mind and could recall many names, and exact dates of events. She was always learning and sharing her knowledge of the outdoors, history, science, and humanities. She was an avid bird watcher. Other hobbies included cooking, sewing, painting, reading, quilting, traveling, and hiking. Sharon had many friends throughout her life for which she always expressed gratitude.

Sharon served in many positions in the LDS church, including relief society president, primary teacher, and young women camp director. She was a life-long participant in family history and genealogy. Sharon served two missions for the LDS church with her husband, first in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 1996-98 and then at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah from 2001-2002.

Sharon was also very active in the community affairs of Brigham City. She served in the PTA at Bunderson School, and with the Utah Heart Fund for 3 years. She served over 27 years in numerous positions for the Ladies Community Club, including as president. Sharon was Brigham City’s mother of the year in 1993. In later years Sharon was involved with the Good Sam’s Club.
