Sharon A. Pitts, 74, of Crawfordsville passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Lane House Nursing Home.
Sharon was born June 1, 1942, at Lafayette. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1960. She married Larry W. Pitts in 1960. She and Larry were blessed with four children, W. Craig Pitts, L. Michael Pitts (Jennifer), Lori L. Pitts Wesley (Brad) and Stephanie A. Pitts Freeman (David). They had 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by step-mother Leontine Westall Ungersma; father Hilbert W. Ungersma; and brothers, Ronald L. Ungersma and Thomas A. Ungersma.
One of her greatest joys was to be able to be a stay-at-home mom raising her four children while they were still in school.
She and Larry moved their family to Lynchburg, Virginia, in August 1971 where Larry attended Liberty University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. They moved to Reed City, Michigan, in November 1976 where Larry served as pastor until 1979.
They moved to Lafayette, and planted a church in November 1979. Due to ill health, Larry had to give up the pastoral ministry.
Sharon worked as a volunteer at the Pregnancy Crisis Center in West Lafayette. When the children were all, but one, out of school, she started working at Purdue University where worked for 15 years as a secretary and then retired.
In January 2014, she and Larry moved to Crawfordsville, where they attended Rock Point Church. Sharon assisted Larry in Bible studies by helping prepare all the paperwork that needed to be done for the Bible study Larry taught. She volunteered for several activities that the church hosted.
Sharon’s greatest joy was serving God, her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and church. She enjoyed basket making, ceramics and most kinds of crafts. She loved enjoying the work her husband, Larry, did in the yard and garden. Her greatest desire would be that her whole family would one day join her in heaven.
