On Friday, February 21, 2014, God beckoned Sharlene Denise Morrison with outstretched hands and whispered softly of an unknown land. She reached out and took His hand and journeyed to the Promise Land.

Sharlene “Nicey” was born July 17, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Leora “Bootsie” Morrison and the late Ray Oliver Morrison. Sharlene was the oldest of two children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Morrison.

Sharlene was educated in the New York School system and went on to further her education at North Carolina State A & T University in Greensboro, North Carolina earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. She earned a Masters degree in Social Work with an emphasis on childhood development from New York University. Sharlene worked in the New York School system until budgets cuts and health related issues forced her into early retirement. Sharlene (Nicey) was a dedicated follower of her faith. She attended Restoration Revival Ministry, INTL Church in Brooklyn, New York with Pastor Vandell N. Atkins, Sr. She loved her church and her church family. She loved cooking and always volunteered to take her famous fried chicken to any event they had at church. Although, Sharlene had great loses in her immediate family, she never lost faith in HER LORD and SAVIOR.

Sharlene leaves behind a host of relatives, two wonderful aunts, Aquilla Green of Trinity, NC and Lola Mae Evans of Newark, New Jersey. Sharlene also leaves behind one last uncle, Calvin T. Morrison of Fargo, North Dakota; a host of cousins who loved her beyond words. Her cousins reside in Randleman, NC, Statesville, NC, Trinity, NC, Atlanta, GA, Oakland, CA, Newark, NJ, Fargo, ND, Washington, DC, Ft. Washington, MD., Columbus, OH and Silver Spring, MD. Sharlene, also leaves behind a host of devoted friends of countless years. Her gracious spirit, heartwarming smile and radiant light are just a few of the qualities that all who knew her will remember her by. She left an indelible mark on each person she met, having the ability to make everyone in her life feel like her best friend. Sharlene considered her friends as extended family members and she treated each one as if they were so special to her.

Sharlene Denise Morrison will forever be remembered for her independent, strong personality. As she always said, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper”.

There are two special friends, Edith Molino of Brooklyn, NY and April Petty of Greensboro, NC. to whom we want to express our gratitude of love and appreciation to them for their loyalty. Also, gratitude and appreciation to Nicey’s cousins, LaVerne Robbins and Donna Evans for their unconditional love; to all of Nicey’s cousins in Statesville, we want to “thank you” for your love and support. A special “thank you” to Pastor Vivian Donaldson of Brookyln, New York who for 34 years treated her like a daughter and stood with Sharlene thru thick and thin. May God continue to BLESS all of you.
