Sharel Louise Jurgens, 73, passed away Sunday May 29, 2016 in the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. She was born December 13, 1942, to Ward and Wyoma (Etter) Duckworth in Chariton, Iowa. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1961. She married Dave Jurgens on September 3, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska. She and Dave have lived in Chariton for over 40 years.
Sharel was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, cherishing God, her family, and her friends. Early in their marriage, Dave and Sharel liked to travel, ride motorcycles, and go camping and fishing with their family. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Honolulu, Hawaii. This trip led to her grandchildren affectionately calling her “Tutu,” the Hawaiian word for grandmother. Dave and Sharel traveled once more to Hawaii, staying on Maui, as well as to Walt Disney World in Florida with son, Wally. Those trips helped create some of the many wonderful memories Dave and Sharel shared during their life together.
Sharel’s hobbies and interest among many were Quilting, Reading, Coloring, Sewing, her dogs Rags & Mugs, her cat Sophie, Disney (especially Winnie the Pooh), and journaling.
She and Dave have three sons David (Cindy) of Fairmont, Minnesota, Dana (Janice) of Keokuk and Wally (Melodie) of Tiffin. A brother Alan Duckworth of Chariton. Eleven Grandchildren, Seven Great-grandchildren and the many friends and extended family members on both the Jurgens and Duckworth/Etter sides.
Sharel is preceded in death by her mother, father and infant brother Paul Duckworth.
