Shannon Michell Swope (Shonna) was born on June 24, 1970 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Willie Clarence Swope, Sr., and Delores Simpson Swope. She departed this life on March 1, 2022 in Decatur, Al.
Shannon attended Decatur City Schools, but ultimately earned her G.E.D. through an adult education program. She always had a desire to further her education and took some college level courses at Calhoun Community College. Shannon’s petite frame packed a powerful voice and it was not uncommon to hear her singing before you would see her coming. She had a very giving heart, known to help anyone or give her last, and could easily brighten your day with her unique sense of humor.
Shannon was preceded in death by her father and siblings, Willie C. Swope, Jr., and Gertie Swoopes.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Delores Swope of Decatur, AL; one daughter, ToBorsha Swope Sweeney (Anthony) of Decatur, AL, and one son, Migale Swope (Irasema) of Decatur, AL; six grandchildren, Ava Swope, Cairo Swope, Zephaniah Sweeney, Jaelyn Swope, Amaya Swope, and Geonna Sweeney; step-grandson, Jaquan Sweeney, all of Decatur, AL; siblings, Wanda Utley (Muriel) of Decatur, AL, Annie Franklin of Decatur, AL, Ester Franklin of Knoxville, TN, Jennifer Franklin of Knoxville TN, Harriett Simmons (Lee) of Knoxville, TN, Lynda “Peaches” Swope of Louisville, KY and Clarence Swope; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
