Shannon Griffin Whetstone was born to and raised by Greg and Linda Elliott Griffin. On Friday, August 11, 2017, Shannon entered into eternal rest at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 41 years old.
At a young age, Shannon confessed her hope in Christ and joined Gibson Chapel Church in Oakville, Alabama. As an adult, she joined Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. Shannon shared the “Word” of God with all she came in contact with. She felt her calling was to encourage and help people. She was not ashamed of the “Gospel of Christ”.
Shannon was a 1994 graduate of Speake High School. She was very active in sports. She was a member of the cheerleading squad, played basketball and softball.
Shannon’s love for children led her to start her own business, Kids R Us daycare in LaVergne, Tennessee. Her students affectionately called her Mrs. Shannon. She possessed a genuine love for people. She never met a stranger. Shannon was always giving and compassionate toward others. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Shannon was respected and loved by all who came in contact with her.
Shannon was united in marriage to Clyde “Sherra” Whetstone. To this union two daughters were born. Shannon’s greatest joy was being a mother to her daughters. She instilled God’s wisdom in their lives. She taught them how to be strong young ladies and face adversities with courage.
Shannon was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alonza and Ophelia Griffin and her uncle, Randy Breno Griffin.
Shannon leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Ayanah Sherrae Whetstone and Myla Brooklyn Whetstone, Fayetteville, TN; parents, Greg and Linda Griffin, Oakville, AL; brother, Gregory Laquez Griffin, Huntsville, AL; grandparents, Carl Elliott, Huntsville, AL; Josephine Brackins, Oakville, AL; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
