Shaleen Estella Soberanis-Butler was born in Belize on December 8th, 1964 to Dorothy Jane Topsey & Anthony Joseph Soberanis.
Shaleen attended Wesley Primary School in Belize, enjoying her childhood with her many cousins, especially Nadine.
Upon her arrival in New York in August 1974 accompanied by her aunt Emily, whose house she stayed in overnight. She was then brought to Brooklyn to meet her mother, brother Kareem & future dad Pops. She was like a living doll as she sat down hardly moving, not talking, not smiling, only blinking. We were all strangers to her, but over time she opened up & exposed the loving & respectful person she was. The bond between the family blossomed with the addition of a baby brother Kirk (deceased 2/15/94) & Lionel’s first child Karen. That bond with her mother was a sight to see. She was fawned over & dresses like the doll she was.
Shaleen attended P.S. 213, George Gershwin Junior High School, then Washington Irving High School. During her youthful life, she was a good softball pitcher & batter for the Comets Softball Team. She furthered her education at Baruch College where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Accounting.
She met the love of her life Howard Butler around 2002 & married him on July 3rd, 2010.
On March 1st, 2022, she was afflicted with a diabetic shock accompanied by seizures. She was unresponsive & taken to Brookdale Hospital the same day. She never regained consciousness & died on March 4th.
Shaleen is survived by her mother Dorothy Hamilton, dads Anthony Soberanis & Lionel Hamilton, brothers Kareem Hamilton & Policarpio Soberanis, sisters Kirsten, Kimberly, Estella & Marcellie, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, & a host of cousins & friends.
May light perpetually shine upon her.
May she rest in eternal peace in the palm of our Savior.
