SFC. (Ret.) Rudy Delgado, 92, of Morgans Point Resort passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Wm. R. Courtney Nursing Home in Temple.

Rudy was born on October 28, 1929 in El Paso, Texas to Rudolph and Mary (Valdez) Delgado. He graduated high school and later received his Associate’s Degree from Temple Junior College in Temple. He later attended Southwest Texas State for 3 1/2 years.

Mr. Delgado enlisted in the US Army on July 7, 1952, and served for 27 years, retiring in 1979. While in the Army, Rudy was deployed overseas and served in the Korean War. After retirement, Mr. Delgado worked at the VA Hospital in Temple before he retired again. Rudy was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton where he volunteered and helped do maintenance, mow, and do minor repairs. He was a founding member of the 4th degree at Christ the King, was active with the Knights of Columbus, was a member of the VFW, DAV, and was very active with the church.

Mr. Delgado suffered from Parkinson’s, but stayed active in as many organizations as his health would allow, finally moving into a nursing home when he no longer could. He married Carmelita Smith on February 8, 1969 at Ft. Bliss, and they were married for over 52 years until she passed away in 2021. They are now united again in Heaven.

Survivors include sons Donald Buttz, Jr and David R. Delgado, and daughters Liza Marie Delgado, Angelique Celeste Delgado, and Desiree D. Delgado.
