Scott A. Hockenberry, 58, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Scott Allan Hockenberry was born April 8, 1950, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Donald Scott and Cora Maxine (Herrick) Hockenberry.

He attended grade school in the last country school in the Atlantic area and went to Atlantic High School, graduating in 1968. He then went on to Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa, graduating with an Associates Degree.

Not following a course he desired, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radio Broadcasting at Brown College. Returning to Iowa, he worked briefly for KSIB Radio in Creston. When an opportunity for employment as an announcer was offered by KJAN Radio Atlantic, Scott moved home.

Scott researched the requirements for mortuary science school and discovered he would need additional courses in science, anatomy and psychology. He returned to Iowa Western College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, for another year to attain the necessary credits. Following that, in 1976, he applied to Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois, and was accepted. He attended Worsham’s, and at the same time collected a couple more classes at Illinois State University in Chicago. He graduated 2nd in his class at Worsham’s receiving a gold watch and the Morazak and Russ Award for Excellence in Restorative Art. In 1991, Scott returned for education and attended the Vernie Fountain National Academy in Springfield, Missouri, which focuses on highly specialized embalming practices and post mortem reconstructive surgery.
