Obituary of Scott A. Fenske

Scott Alan Fenske, 50, fiercely loving dad, joyfully sarcastic older brother, steadfast and faithful friend, passed away August 25, 2016 at his home in Maplewood, MN. Scott was born on March 29, 1966, to the late Donald and Arleen Fenske. In 1976, the family moved to Grand Rapids, MN from Anoka, MN and so began Scott’s life-long love of lake living. After graduating from Grand Rapids High School in 1984, Scott attended the University of North Dakota and eventually graduated from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. During both of their final semester’s at MSU, his sister, Mindy, had the joy of hosting him on her living room couch for a couple months as he made the transition to the Cities. They both worked in restaurants, Mindy as a server and Scott as a line cook. Every night after completing their shifts, they’d meet in the tiny one-bedroom apartment. Scott with a 6-pack of beer, Mindy with a 6-pack of Diet Coke. Upon arriving in St. Paul, Scott quickly became a valued employee of Firestone Complete Auto Care. Firestone was not merely a job for Scott. His team members were part of his family. More than just Store Manager, Scott was a friend to all, mentor to many, and father figure to some. He dedicated over 25 years to the company, winning over 20 awards for service. The word “loyal” only begins to capture Scott’s dedication to the people in his life. He was the first person people would call if they ever needed anything. As his family gathered in his house after his death, a parade of neighbors came knocking at the door telling stories about how they would wake-up after a snow storm to find their driveways already plowed, or how they would come home after work to find their lawns magically mowed. Scott was the definition of an early riser and so he worked off his constant nervous energy by helping out the people in his neighborhood. The center of Scott’s life were his two daughters, Natalie Fenske (22) and Mallory Fenske (19). A confirmed bachelor following his divorce from Jennifer Woodley, his girls were his world. Whether it was hamming it up together in the living room singing along to Eric Church, or cooking up his signature breakfast of Eggs Benedict and French toast, or simply sitting together watching a movie or the Food Network, Scott was never more happy than while he was with Nat and Mal. He lived for making them laugh, listening to them when they needed him to lend an ear, and teaching them the value of family and hard work (while also ensuring that they never wanted for anything). Scott is survived by his two daughters Natalie Fenske and Mallory Fenske, his sister Mindy Fenske (Jason Munsell), and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Scott is predeceased by his parents, Donald Fenske and Arleen Fenske.
