On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Scot H. Bushman, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away at the age of 64.

A true adventurer, athlete and entrepreneur, Scot traveled to Asia with the Marine Corps at eighteen, where he became an expert marksman. He excelled as an athlete, running for the SCC cross country team. Two years later Scot transferred to NAU where he blew off classes anytime he could get an all day ski pass. He worked summer fishing jobs in Alaska for the salmon and crabbing industry. Scot was always a hard worker and good provider. He got his start in construction as a framer, then obtained his contractor’s license and began remodeling and building homes in the Phoenix area. Scot was born to Terry R. Bushman and Arline Wood (with his fraternal twin Steve) on July 13, 1958, in Indio California. The family soon moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they stayed. Scot married Myla Van Kempen on December 11, 1987 and embraced his new role as father to Jesse and Steven. Three years later, Myla Danielle was born, who Scot called Junior.

Scot endeared himself quickly to anyone he met and developed a large circle of devoted friends. He was an outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. Whether it was angling for catfish in the Hohokam canals, sea bass in Baja, or pheasant hunting in North Dakota, he always looked forward to taking these trips with his friends. Scot loved relaxing in Heber, where he and Myla had started construction on a summer home. If asked what he wanted to do, Scot would intelligently say, “whatever my wife wants.” Scot and Myla were married just shy of thirty-five years and it was obvious to all who knew them that they were crazy about each other.

Scot was well-known for being warm, gregarious, original, funny, generous and thoughtful. Perhaps most of all, he was known for being a Christian man who not only spoke of his faith but lived it. At the end he told Myla, “I’m ready to be with Jesus.”

Scot will be mourned by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Myla, and children: Jesse (and Angela), Steven (and Keasha), and Myla Junior. His grandchildren include Nathan, Naomi, Ryan Joey, Milaya, Clay, Quinn, and MacKenzie.
