Saundra Gorton passed away peacefully on February 26, 2016, at her residence in Columbia, MD.
She was born in St. Joseph, MO to Glen “Mac” and Fern McGinnis and grew up in Maryville, MO.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Gorton of Columbia (formerly Kensington, MD); her two sons, Scott (Deirdre) of Columbia, MD, and Stuart (Lisa) of Midlothian, VA; two granddaughters, Rebecca and Rachel; two grandsons, Bradley and Colin; her sister, Judy McGinnis of Chicago, IL; three nieces, Shelly, Christie and Fran; her sisters-in-law, Teresa Reilly and Janice McGinnis, and nephew, Alan Coy, all of Maryville, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mac and Fern, her brothers, Richard and Chris McGinni, and a son, Bruce.
She was a loving wife and mother who adored her grandchildren. She often said that she had an idyllic childhood in the college town of Maryville, MO where her father owned several restaurants. She worked in the restaurants as a teenager and after she was married. She often talked about the many famous persons she encountered during those years including Louis Armstrong, Colonel Sanders and Dale Carnegie.
Once she became a mother, she devoted her time and energies to the care of her home and family. She was an avid collector of antiques and coordinated estate sales in the Washington metro area in the 1980’s. She will be missed by her family and friends.
