Mr. John “Sarge” Shepherd, age 79, of Cusseta, passed away on Sunday, April 12th, 2015 at the Canterbury Healthcare Facility in Phenix City, Alabama.
Mr. Shepherd was born in Kingman, Kansas on March 29, 1936 to the late, James and Gladys Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Colley Shepherd; sons, Terry (Deanna) Shepherd, Cusseta, Larry Shepherd, Cusseta; sister, Lola Christianson, Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Morgan Shepherd, Jonathan Shepherd, Lauren Shepherd, Layla Shepherd.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Alton Shepherd; daughter, Tamra Yvette Shepherd.
Sarge was retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class with 21.5 years of service. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. After his retirement, he worked at Larry Jones Upholstery in Lafayette and at the Paul McClellan Scrap Yard.
