Sarah Yvonne Pulliam, 85, of Lakewood, NJ passed away on June 23, 2016 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. She was born on June 11, 1931 in Denton, MD to Fred A. Fox and Mabel O. Williams.

Sarah received her formal education in Denton, MD after graduating from Lockerman High School.  She graduated from the National School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA in 1949.  Sarah relocated to Freehold, NJ, where she met and married Aaron Pulliam.  They started a family and moved to Lakewood, NJ.

Sarah was highly sought after for her nursing skills.  Marvin Goldstein opened the Lexington Rest Home in Lakewood, NJ in the early 1970’s.  He recruited Sarah to assist him in founding and opening the rest home.  The facility opened with 5 patients, and over the years increased to over 200 patients by the time Sarah retired.

Sarah had a heart of gold and was always willing to help all in need.  She provided a lot of young women graduating from high school with their first job in the nursing field.  These young women went on to become RNs, LPNs, and Nurse’s Aides in the Lakewood, NJ area.

She was loved and appreciated by all that had the opportunity to know her. Sarah was also a Boys Scouts den mother for Theodore and Raymond, her two youngest sons.  She touched a lot of young men in the community, such as John Marshall, a member of the Lakewood Police Department, Greg Jones, Air Force Retiree, and Clifford Reed, Chief Executive for major corporations, to name a few.

Sarah didn’t stop there, she helped to found the Falcon Club Foundation in 1973 for young ladies in Lakewood high school. Gail Fox, her daughter, was a member of the organization.  Dr. Gwen Jones fox received the first scholarship award from the Foundation.   Sarah never turned anyone away, and her life was filled with giving and love.

She was predeceased by her husband, Aaron Pulliam; daughter, Gail Fox; son, Gray Fox; and mother, Mabel O. Williams.

Sarah leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Aaron fox of Savannah, GA, Jerome Pulliam of Savannah GA, Raymond Pulliam of Manchester, NJ,  and Theodore Pulliam of Lakewood, NJ; one daughter, Yvonne Fox of Lakewood NJ; one brother, Thomas Blanton of New Castle, DE; granddaughters, Yolanda Fox of Perth Amboy, NJ, Kimora Fox of Somerset, NJ, Keisha Jones of Manchester, NJ, Keyra Pulliam of Toms River, NJ, Janice Fox of Atlanta, GA, Fonia Fox Simmoms of Portsmouth, VA; grandson, Raymond Pulliam II of Manchester, NJ; five great grandsons, six great granddaughters, and a host friends.
