Sarah P. McKelvy Smith was born September 18, 1928, to the union of Kermit Collis and Annie O’nell Boyd Mckelvy. She transition from this life Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, AL.

The pillars of her life revolved around her love of family, her fellow man and God. In her home there was always room for one more at the table. She served as a faithful member of her chosen church working with various committees and departments, but her greatest delight came from working with youth, assisting with the choir, picking them up for Sunday school and church activities. She was a member of Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years until her husband joined Smith Chapel CME Church, where she later moved her membership believing that families should worship together. She was high spirited about her family and her church.

Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms and her favorite song of encouragement was Amazing Grace.

Sarah was the first of seven children. Five from the union of Kermit C. and Annie O’nell (Boyd ) Mckelvy, Sarah P. Smith (Haweda) Moulton AL, Naomi M. Davis (Thomas) Courtland, AL, Odra C. Priest (Charlie) Moulton, AL, William B. Mckelvy (Marlene) Midlothian, VA, Kermit R. Mckelvy, deceased (Julia). From the union of Kermit McKelvy and Ronnie Vinson (Mama Ronnie) were two children, Cedric J. McKelvy, and Monica McKelvy.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 59 years, Prince H. Smith Sr., and one brother, Kermit R. McKelvy.

She leaves to God’s Grace and Love nine children: Prince H. Smith, (Judy) Missouri City, TX, Gregory B. Smith (Mildred), Huntsville, AL, Varlon Brackins (George), Moulton, AL, Ursula Smith, Huntsville, AL, Wanda Smith, Nashville, TN, James Smith, Huntsville, AL, Kent Smith (Kema), Elicott City, MD, Launceford Smith (Angela), Sheffield, AL, Domis Smith, Huntsville, AL; one brother-in-law, Travis Smith (Ann) Shreveport, LA; and host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
