Sarah Mae Evans was born on December 31, 1933, in Oktaha, Oklahoma, to her parents, Button Evans and Willie Mae Johnson Evans. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Louis, Fred, Roy, Alfonso, Jerry and her sisters, Leola, Sarah, Letha, Callie, Yvonne, Annie Jean and Cynthia. Growing up, she enjoyed fishing, playing jacks, and softball. She was a very outgoing young lady and made friends easily. Sarah accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a very early age in Oktaha, Oklahoma.
