Sarah Louise “Sally” Starkey (1943 – 2012)
Sarah Louise ‘Sally’ Starkey passed away on Dec. 1, 2012, after a brief illness. Sally was born in
Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in Downers Grove, Ill. She was the daughter of William Hartley
Starkey and Jeannette Hollingworth Starkey. She was also the great-granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs.
J.H. Beal, early pioneers in the Fort Walton Beach area. Sally graduated from Downers Grove
High School and received a degree in education from Northern Illinois University. She taught
elementary school in Schaumburg, Ill., before moving to Florida, where she continued her teaching
career at Ocean City Elementary, retiring in 1995. Sally also was employed at McRae’s (now Belk’s)
Department Store for many years. She is survived by one brother, William James (Jim) Starkey; cousins,
Peggy Rice, M. Catherine Starkey, Stewart Starkey, Rob Starkey, Ed Starkey and Bill McCartney; and
one niece, Jennifer Starkey.
