Salem, VA—Ms. Sara M. DeLapp, 88, of Salem passed to her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton, VA.

Born in log cabin in Fairforest, SC on February 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Victor and Mamie Poteat Mitchell. She was a graduate of Fairforest High School. Sara was retired as a pattern and marker maker of Brookside/Creighton shirt factory of Reidsville, NC and worked at the American Tobacco Company as a stamp lady. Sara was the loving wife to Jasper Burnell DeLapp having celebrated over 60 years of marriage residing at 1545 Barnes Street in Reidsville, NC. Sara moved with her daughter to 532 Chamberlain Lane, Salem, VA in February 2014 to be near her son and family.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Victor Burnell DeLapp and his wife Regina of Salem and one daughter, Susan Jeanette DeLapp of Salem; one grandson, Jacob Burnell DeLapp of Salem and one step-granddaughter Erin Renee Boggs of Fort Worth, TX. Sara was the joint mother toPeanut her beloved Chihuahua. Sara had one surviving Sister-in-Law, Patricia Thomas Mitchell of Inman, SC; nieces Tamesia Bondurant, Sandra Jones, Denise Allen and Ann Reynolds; nephews William DeLapp, Charles Yarbourgh, Frank DeLapp, Charlie McBride and Eddy Mitchell. She was predeceased by three brothers John Mitchell, Edward Mitchell and Paul Mitchell; two sisters Ruth Moore and Ann McBride all of South Carolina.
Sara was a member of the Baptist Temple Church and she walked each day talking to Jesus Christ, her sweet savior. She attended Rockingham Community College to learn to paint in her senior years. Her other hobbies were silk flower arrangement, reading and playing golf with her family and friends at Wolf Creek.
