Sara Maria Wittner was born in Denver, Colorado on September 23, 1988 to Leon and Gina Wittner. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and Denver School of the Arts, where she majored in vocal music, before attending Horizon High School. During her school years, Sara was active in Northglenn Youth Theatre, Colorado Children’s Chorale and Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT). She attended MCT’s summer preforming arts camp for seven years. As Sara always did, she made numerous friends at the camp and kept in touch with them throughout the school years and after she had graduated from the camp program. After Sara graduated from Horizon High, she obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Front Range Community College. Sara was a member of Colorado Repertory Singers and volunteered in her community. She worked in many capacities, but was particularly happy to work as an executive assistant at both Junior Achievement and Colorado Community Health Center, because she wanted to work in a field where she could help others. Sara was very involved in the Recovery Movement where she worked with people with substance use disorders. She struggled with substance use herself and fought hard over a number of years for her sobriety. She completed Stout Street Foundation’s two-year program and worked as a member of the staff there. Upon completion of the program, Sara had several years of sobriety. In that time she volunteered at Stout Street, the Harm Reduction Action Center and Young People in Recovery. She helped many people in their recovery as well as some who had not experienced substance use disorder. On Christmas Day, 2019, Sara became engaged to Jacob Strong. She loved Jacob and his family very much and was looking forward to life as a wife and mother.
