Sara “Sally” Meacham Spurgeon, age 82, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 23, 2021in Huntsville, AL after a brief illness.  Sally was born to Jack and Sara Meacham in Birmingham, AL on August 31, 1939.  She was the oldest of three girls.  She graduated from Shades Valley HS and attended Mrs. Howard’s School for Girls (now Samford University).  At the age of 17, she met the love of her life, Samuel Josiah “Joe” Spurgeon.  They were married on April 3, 1959 and were married for 50 years before Joe’s passing.  Sally was an active member of East Huntsville Baptist Church.  She loved Jesus and never hesitated to ask those she met, “Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?”  That’s just who she was. She cared about the hearts and souls of those around her more than anything else.  She and Joe loved to travel to Silverton, CO where she collected many interesting rocks and other trinkets to share with her grandchildren.  Sally was also actively involved in the Twickenham Doll Club.  She adored her “dollies” and loved sharing that love with her daughters and granddaughters.  Dolls were her gift of choice to others.  She served actively for many years in the Chapman School PTA and as a band parent at Lee and Huntsville High Schools.  She was also an avid Auburn fan, though she would never watch the games because she felt that it brought the football team bad luck!  She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.  She was kind, caring, and truly loved serving others no matter how little she was able to do for them.  Sally loved her family, friends, and neighbors unconditionally.  That kind of love she had for others is what made her so special.

Sally is survived by her three girls, Doty Spurgeon Henderson, her husband Greg, their two children, Anna Henderson, and Daniel Henderson and his wife, Olivia;  Kathy Spurgeon Roberts, her husband Ray, their four children, Ray Roberts, and wife, Rose, and great-granddaughter, Artemis,  Eric Roberts, Heather Roberts, and Ben Roberts;  Sarajo Spurgeon Wentling and her husband Dr. Eric Wentling.  She also survived by one sister, Pat Walter and her husband, Bill.  Sally is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She had many friends and neighbors who she also loved deeply.  The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff from Right at Home for loving Sally deeply and taking care of her so well.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Sara Meacham, husband, Samuel Josiah (Joe) Spurgeon, Jr., and a sister, Joan Meacham.
