Sara Camilla Martin was born in Greenville, South Carolina.
She was the only daughter of Amon Achilles Martin, Sr. who was the school principal at Riverside High School (grades 1 – 12) with his wife as the first-grade teacher, Sara Malissa (Noah) Martin. Raised alongside her two brothers Amon Achilles Martin, Jr., DDS, the eldest of the three and Colonel James Noah Martin, U.S. Army Retired, the youngest.
Sara attended Riverside High School, excelled in her studies and departed for college after the eleventh grade. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Texas College in Tyler, TX. She furthered her education at the University of Houston, graduating with a Master of Social Work.
Since 1978, Sara was a loyal member of New Faith Church, Houston, TX, where she served in many ministries such as: Alzheimer, Tutorials, “I Serve”, Age of Grace, Love Ministry and faithfully attended Bible Study and Sunday School until her illness.
Sara became a proud member of “Forty-Four Sisters of Fortitude “, Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1997. She remained a loyal soror for 26 years…devoted to her chapter and devoted to her sisterhood.
Sara Camilla Martin is survived by her loving three children, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two brothers, her niece, two nephews, her great nephew, great niece, and a host of cousins. She was the best friend to almost anyone who met her. Sara was gentle, strong and opened her heart and home to anyone who needed shelter or needed to be a part of a family. She gave her wisdom without hesitation and gave her love unconditionally. As sweet and kind as she was, she was a fighter, the true definition of a warrior. If she loved you, you had her loyalty.
