Sara Genevieve Camp Powell of Newnan, Georgia, died August 19, 2017 at Newnan Health & Rehabilitation at the age of 99.
The daughter of Lizzie Delle Couch and John Arthur Russell Camp, Mrs. Powell was born on August 6, 1918 in Moreland, Georgia. She moved to Nimmons Street with her family when she was a young child. Mrs. Powell resided there until she attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. After the death of her father in 1936, she returned to Newnan and worked as a billing clerk at Arnco Mills.
She married Lewis Albert Powell in 1942 and together they raised their family on Nimmons Street, up the street from her childhood home. Mr. Powell preceded her in death in 1974.
Mrs. Powell was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Bible and Sunday school. She had a love of gardening, an interest she inherited from her mother and grandmother. Family and church were most important to her.
Survivors include daughter Sally P. Yow and husband Michael V. Yow of Media, PA; daughter May P. Parks and husband William H. Parks of Annapolis, MD; daughter Genny P. Threlkeld and husband Steven G. Threlkeld of Newnan, GA; son John C. Powell and wife Wendy A. Powell of Blue Ridge, GA.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Elizabeth L. Yow and Steven J. Hicks of New York, NY; Laura G. Yow of New York, NY; William L. Parks and Ann Williams of Charlotte, NC; Kate P. and Brent A. Jarvi of Annapolis, MD; Ellen T. and J. Wesley Bush of Newnan, GA; Tyler A. Powell and Stefanie Olivier of Atlanta, GA; Kaitlin E. Powell of Fairfax, Virginia; and her great grandchildren: William P. Jarvi, J. Callum M. Hicks, Isabelle F. Jarvi, Elizabeth R. Jarvi, and Parks C. Bush.
