Sandy “Sam” Juan Turner, was born on February 18, 1960, to the late Wash Swoopes and Georgette Turner McDaniel, of Decatur, Alabama. He departed this life on August 2, 2022 at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age at Westside M. B. Church, and later joined Macedonia CPCA. Sandy loved baseball. In his younger days, he played with his family members and others. He was very competitive. His favorite team was the Atlanta Braves of Atlanta, Georgia.
Sandy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Veronda Turner; his mother, Georgette Turner McDaniel; daughters, Rika (Clavion) Goldsmith of Hoover, AL and Samantha (Gary) Johnson of Decatur; brother, Dennis Turner, Sr. of New York, NY; sisters, Juanita Swoopes, Sheryl Matthews and Vonda (Jackie) Cowan all of Decatur; five grandchildren; aunts, Charcey Sutherlin, Pauline Lanier, Cormelia Ann Turner, Katie Lee Swoopes, Mary Lee Burks, Willie Ella Swoopes; and a host of other relatives and friends.
