Sandrae K. Scannell, 72, of Galesburg, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, with her granddaughter by her side. Sandy was born March 5, 1941, in Macomb, the daughter of George Kelly and Marjorie Helen (Clemons) Lashbrook.
She married Roger Scannell on November 26, 1959, in Galesburg.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Roger of Galesburg; one daughter, Tamara (Jim) Guest of Bettendorf, IA; two brothers, Larry (Verla) Lashbrook of Galesburg and Terry (Marilyn) Lashbrook of Houston, TX; and two sisters, Linda (Bill) Briggs of Donna, TX and Colleen McPherrin of Galesburg. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tracy (Nate) Kennis, Joshua Scannell, Megan Guest, James “Jimmy” Guest, and Zachary Guest; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel, Kasia, and McKenzie; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Roger Todd Scannell in November 2001; a nephew, Mark Weedman; and a brother in law, Bill McPherrin.
After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1959, Sandy went on to a beauty school in Galesburg. She worked for Knox County Mutual Insurance as the executive secretary to the board for 17 years and then for KCCDD as the secretary to the board for 10 years, retiring in 2000. Sandy loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading.
