Sandra Lea Windley entered rest on December 4, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. The union of William Lee Windley and Daisy Mitchell-Gibson birthed 11 children to which Sandra was the 1st born. Sandra received her formal education in the public-school system in Brooklyn NY. She graduated from Central Commercial High School in New York City where she learned and exceled in Pittman, Gregg and Shorthand writing skills. Sandra continually used these precious skills and knowledge throughout her entire life. She worked years with the Brownsville Community Council/Multi Service Center in Ocean-Hill Brownsville, Brooklyn where her precise dictation skills were undeniable in its own rights. This journey inspired her to get involved in fighting for people’s rights and improve her community. She later began working at NYC Housing Preservation and Development where her secretarial skills were continually in demand until her health became a determining factor preventing her from working a regular and demanding schedule. She believed in fighting for causes that were unjust to people and the community, which included fair housing, financial equality, quality of life issues, etc. She continued the fight even though she was retired from the official workforce. “Saunie”, or “Aunt Saunie” as she was called, always had her own opinion reflective of any issue, a good sense of humor, and the natural ability to be quick on her feet with surprisingly wit. She was a debater regardless where she was or who was around. You could bet she had a lot to do with the laughter that accompanied the whether with one individual or a group of people.
