Sandra Lee Bauer, a longtime resident of St. Johns, and a frequent resident of Sarasota, Florida and Higgins Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 25, 2024 after a brief, valiant battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.Sandi was born on February 6, 1949 in Owosso, Michigan, the oldest of four children born to Ronald F. Murphy and Gladys Ann Limbaugh. Sandi attended Owosso Middle School and graduated from St. Johns High School in 1967. It was in school that Sandi met Dale Bauer and their love story spanned over five decades. They married on August 8, 1970, made their home in St. Johns, and together raised their two daughters.Following High School, Sandi was offered a job at Michigan State University as a graduation present, where she would flourish and enjoy an over forty year career as an event planner, until her retirement in 2008. Sandi was a meticulous planner, had an eye for details and loved nothing more than bringing people together. She coordinated large conferences at work, festive parties at Higgins Lake, hog roasts in St. Johns, the annual “Michigan Dinner” for her Florida friends, and always had ideas and activities for her family to do.Sandi and Dale wintered in Sarasota, Florida for many years, and Sandi was the matriarch of their friend group. Each winter, she explored a new hobby or craft and found joy in crocheting, stained glass making, woodworking, drawing, and singing in the choir. Sandi also had a love of gardening and her flower beds at Higgins Lake were always a sight to behold. But above all, Sandi was devoted to her family. She was a loyal and devoted wife, a loving mother and a doting grandmother. Her grandchildren, who meant the world to her, were some of the lucky recipients of her unbound love and affection. Each year, Sandi and Dale planned a “No Parents” weekend for their grandchildren, a treasured tradition that continued from the time the first grandchild was a baby through their college years, where they would get away to Higgins Lake or Frankenmuth, enjoying a weekend together. Sandi was always at the center of the fun, playing cards, doing puzzles, keeping score during games and always ensuring everyone had a memorable time.Sandi will be forever missed for her creative, passionate and loving spirit. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly fifty four years, Dale Bauer; her daughters, Rachael (Bart) Post and Shari Jurecko; grandchildren, Brett and Katelyn “Katie” Post, Evan and Rylen Jureko; brother, Bob Bacon; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Norma) Bauer and Dane (Jeri) Bauer; sisters-in-law, Dolores Phinney and Dorene Bauer, as well as extended family members and many dear friends.
