Devoted friend, daughter, sister, wife, and mother, Sandra Julia (Niezgoda) Werder, 46, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Johns Hopkins Hospital-Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Md., after an extended illness.
Born July 15, 1964, in Ruislip, England, Sandra was the daughter of the late John (Jack) L. Niezgoda and Mrs. Margaret Christina (Chris) Mislevy.
Sandra graduated from West Springfield High School in Springfield, Va., in 1982. She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., in 1996, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Sandra began working for the Central Intelligence Agency in 1982, and she was a valued employee of that agency for the past 28 years. Serving in a variety of job disciplines during her career, she was a Contracts and Purchasing Officer at the time of her death.
Sandra was married to Karl K. Werder in 1991 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Williamsport, Md. In 2000, she relocated her family from Washington, D.C., to live on their farm outside of Williamsport.
Sandra enjoyed needlework crafts, such as cross-stitch, quilting and knitting. She was a member of the Reston and Mount Vernon chapters of Quilters Unlimited.
Sandra was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hagerstown, Md.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Karl K. Werder, and their four sons, Christopher R. Werder, Michael E. Werder, Joseph P. Werder and Alexander K. Werder.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her sister, Diane M. Mislevy of Arlington, Va.; her mother, Margaret Christina (Chris) Mislevy, and stepfather, John Mislevy Jr. of Manassas, Park, Va.
