Samuel Williams, Sr was born on March 17, 1940 to the late Alex Sr, and Gladys Williams. He was born in New Orleans, LA and was the 7th of 13 children. He attended Orleans Parish schools where he met Merril Lofton- through her brother Sam. Merril soon became the love of his life and they were married September 25, 1958. To this union were added 8 children, Sheryl, Samuel Jr, Michelle, Michael, Merril, Steven, David Sr, and Wanda. Samuel was the epitome of a good husband and father. His greatest joy was having his wife, children, and grandchildren around him. Even though as he got older, he would retire to his room because of the noise from that same family. We would run out of time trying to name all the people that love him.
Samuel was known as “PawPaw” to many, and he loved every minute of it. He would sometime fuss or complain but he always laughed about it behind closed doors. Samuel was a very hard worker and retired after 37 years with Evans Cooperage. He gained many lifelong bonds during this time and would often reflect on his time there.
Samuel and Merril moved to Huntsville after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the great city of New Orleans in August of 2005. They were welcomed by the New Life SDA church where they became members, and he was baptized by Pastor Harold Goodloe. He would attend church whenever he could, and he loved his church family.
This year he was proud to have voted for the first time in the 2020 presidential election.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 52 years Merril, and children Sheryl, Michael and David Sr, siblings Alex Jr, Joseph, James, Freddie, Frances, Oliver, Priscilla, and Yolanda. Samuel will be sorely missed by his children Samuel Jr (Enid), Michelle, Merril, Steven (Trudy), and Wanda. Also, by his daughter in love Marie (David Sr-deceased). His grandchildren Maurice Sr (Kerriell), Christopher Sr (Tamika), Nicole (Andra), Andree, Arielle, Nidia, David Jr, Albert Jr, Alton, Nikia (Tyler), Joseph, Elisha, Aramist, Timothy and 10 great-grandchildren. Siblings Eloise (Willie Sr), Earline, Linda and Leonard and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
