Samuel “Buck” W. Shive, IV, of Mandarin passed away on February 26, 2022. He is survived by his brother, Cody Shive, two aunts and numerous cousins. Buck was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Samuel W. Shive, III and Lorraine R. Christman. Buck enjoyed his high school years in Hawaii where the family was stationed with the Navy and went on to graduate from Wai’anae High School. They were then stationed in Jacksonville, Florida where Buck received his Bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University.
For 31 years, ‘Mr. Shive’ (as he was known to his students) brightened the halls of N. B. Forrest Senior High School. He used his undaunted enthusiasm and humor to instill a love for knowledge in thousands of students. As a beloved, gifted, articulate Language Arts teacher, with an unforgettable personality, he made learning fun. He could always be counted on to entertain both students and colleagues by his participation in many extracurricular school activities, such as Brain Brawl, field trips, and various plays and pageants. Even after his retirement, he continued to host a Supper Club with his close colleagues. His passion for both education and fun touched the lives of so many.
Buck was an avid photographer, writer, ventriloquist, and lover of all things Disney.
