Samuel Preisler, age 49 passed away at his home in Missoula, Montana on May 21, 2019. Sam was born on October 4, 1969 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to George Thomas Preisler and Marietta Olivia Marquardt. He was raised in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1987.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1990 and served honorably for 6 years. He was stationed in Pt. Mugu in California and sailed on the USS Rushmore out of San Diego. He received many commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and Service Medal with Bronze Star.
On November 7, 1992 he married Christie Lorena Barnard in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Together they have six beautiful children: Jacey, Rebecca, Calvin, Talitha, Lorena, and Thomas. He was also a father to many wonderful foster children throughout his life. Sam loved his family and worked hard to provide for them and teach them all he could. Sam graduated from Columbia State University with a Ph. D in Computer Science.
He served in many different callings and organizations as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in Melba, Idaho for ten years and served as Chairman of the 4th of July Committee and on the Melba School Board. He was a member of the American Legion and other professional organizations. Sam loved traveling and regularly went on trips with his family. Their favorite trips together include a visit to the church history sites in Nauvoo, Illinois and one to visit the patriotic sites of Washington, D.C. He often emphasized his love of the gospel and of his country. His latest trip was to visit Alaska, which fulfilled his goal of visiting all 50 states. He enjoyed watching his boys play sports and outdoor activities. He loved cooking and was the reigning Iron Chef Champion in his family competitions. He enjoyed game nights with family and friends and loved watching History Channel and Food Network.
Samuel is survived by the loving mother of his children, Christie Preisler. His children Jacey (Jason) Mitchell, Rebecca Preisler, Calvin (Kali) Preisler, Talitha Rivera (Jose), Lorena Preisler, Thomas Preisler, and three grandsons, Jaxen & Jett Mitchell & Leo Rivera. He is also survived by his wonderful mother, Marietta Whitney and seven siblings: Jared Preisler, Cami Mann, Marya Meinberg, Josie McGhie, Georgette Williams, Barbara Bird, and Benjamin Preisler, along with many wonderful nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his stalwart father, George Preisler.
