Samuel “Sam” Pettis, 68, of Elkhart, went to be with the Lord on Good Friday, April 18, at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.

Samuel was born March 14, 1946, in Clarksdale, Miss., to the late Rev. Mack and Louise (Dent) Pettis.

Mr. Pettis worked for Pettis Maintenance Service and Penn-Harris Madison School Corp., retiring in 2010. He attended The Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Nurses Guild and Usher Board until his illness prevented him from serving.

On June 28, 2008, he married Tina Crenshaw.

Samuel leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife; daughter LeAndrea Crenshaw; and a granddaughter, KaMilliah Crenshaw; three sisters, Betty Pettis and Cora Pettis of Sikeston, Mo., and Dorothy (Bobby) Timmons of Burlington, Iowa; brother Oliver (Esther) Pettis of Elkhart; sistesr-in-law Miranda and Carla Crenshaw, Benora Smoote; brother-in-law Paul Crenshaw; mother-in-law Mildred Crenshaw; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and The Greater Bethlehem MBC and friends, including special friends, Peggy Thomas and Janet Kings, also known as the cookie lady.

Sam enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, “meme little nurse”, watching Gunsmoke, Wipeout and Tyler Perry Project.
