Samuel S. Jackson, Sr., 77, of Pelion, has gone home to be with his Lord. Living all his life in Pelion, SC he was the only child of the late Andrew R. and Eloise Sturkie Jackson.
Mr. Sammy, as he was affectionately known by many, was married to Beverly Bodie Jackson, his high school sweetheart for 54 years and their love story is one for the ages. His love and adoration for Beverly was the one thing that never wavered throughout his declining health.
Mr. Sammy, a man of very few words but many selfless actions, also loved the Clemson Tigers and his country dearly. He graduated from Clemson University in 1968 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then left for service in the US Army and served 2 years in Vietnam as Construction Engineering Unit Commander. Mr. Sammy had a long and distinguished career as an engineer with the SC Department of Transportation. He enjoyed farming, antique tractor pulling, was always an active member in the Pelion community and loved baseball. Heplayed for Pelion High in the 1960s when they were runners up to the state champions and then coached his sons and their friends for years in the Pelion Athletic Program (PAP). In his later years he was a very active member of the Lexington County veterans group.
Mr. Sammy is survived by his wife Beverly, his children Sam Jackson, Jr. (Heather) and Andy Jackson (Valerie); Grandchildren Sam Jackson, III (Mollie), Tim Jackson (Katelyn), Lyndsey Chavous (H.B.), Aubrey Hite (Ashley); and four great-grandchildren; Mr. Sammy had a large extended family who loved him and will miss him very much.
