Samuel Morton Thompson, 92, of New Minden, Illinois formerly of Odin passed away December 12, 2020 in the care of his daughter. Born July 23, 1928 in Odin, he was the son of Harry Morton and Evelyn P. (Benson) Thompson. A laborer by trade, he had worked in manufacturing. He later worked for Salem Gravure Division of World Color Press in Salem.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church in New Minden, was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and loved cars. He married Rosa Mae Rigg and she preceded him in death May 24, 1979. He then married Alice Hesemann and she also proceeds him in death. Surviving are his children, Vance (Robin) Thompson of Florida, Linda (Gary) Unverfehrt of Hoyleton, IL, Bonnie Foutch of Salem, Evelyn Thompson of New Minden, IL and Renne (Brent) Vest of Salem, IL, along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his wives and parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Harry M. “Morty” Thompson, and siblings Doris Taylor, June Bivins and Margaret Ruth Liddle.
