LUBIN, Samuel, passed away in Phoenix on March 17, 2012, at age 94. He was born in Newark, N.J., on September 10, 1917, the son of Yetta and Morris Lubin. His first tour of duty in the U.S. Army was scheduled to conclude on December 8, 1941; with the sudden advent of war, he remained in uniform until the war’s end, serving in both the Pacific and European Theaters and fighting at Midway and the Battle of the Bulge. In 1945, he met Doris Stone of Columbus, Ohio; they wed in 1946, and remained happily married until her death. They had three children, all surviving: Carol (Jan Earl Haynes) Lubin; David (Elizabeth) Lubin; and Richard Lubin. He was the co-founder with Jerome Gross of Elgee Electric Company in Columbus, retiring in 1980. In 1988 he married Marilyn (“Mickey”) Bress of Pittsburgh and was, again, a devoted and caring husband. When he married Mickey, he gained an additional four children: Neil (Kathy) Bress; Suzy (Eric) Schuman; Jody (Itamar) Stern; and Amy (Howard) Neukrig. Sam and Mickey lived at the Biltmore Colony Greens in Phoenix. Sam had a sharp and witty mind, with a great interest in history and world events. He is survived, missed, and cherished by his loving widow, Mickey, and his original and extended family, which now includes 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a frisky dog named Luke.
