Samuel Kasparian, 81, of Bristol, passed away on Sunday January 10, 2010 at Sheriden Woods.

He was the husband of Barbara Ryan Kasparian. Sam was born on September 22, 1928, a son of the late Emanuel and Agnes (Nazarian) Kasparian. He was a Bristol resident and attended local schools.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kim J. Kasparian, his two sons and daughters-in-law Kerry and Kim Kasparian and Kyle and Mary Kasparian; his three grandchildren, 2nd LT Jason Kasparian, and Jeffrey and Craig Kasparian. He is also survived by a sister Dorothy Sepa; a sister-in-law Marjorie Kasparian; a nephew Armand Kasparian and a niece Michele Tomczak. He was predeceased by his brother Armand Kasparian.

Sam was with the Bristol Redevelopment Agency for 17 years of which the last eight years he was the Executive Director.

He was the past president of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. Governor William O’Neill appointed him as Commissioner to the Connecticut State Housing Authority, a post he held for five years. He also received an appointment as an executive member to both the state and regional levels of the National Association Housing and Redevelopment Officials. He went on to serve as president of NAHRO and its Ad Hoc Committees concerning both housing and redevelopment issues.

After retiring from the Bristol Redevelopment Agency, Sam was appointed Executive Director of the Bristol Housing Authority, a position he held for over 11 years. During his administration he was successful in obtaining five million dollars from the State of Connecticut to develop Komanetsky Estates in Bristol.

He was a member of the Bristol Elks Lodge 1010 and the American Legion Post #2.
