Samuel Howard Napier, 84, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2015. Born September 23, 1930 in Hamlet, North Carolina, he was a son of the late George Washington and Martha Jane Thore Napier.
He was a graduate of Hamlet High School and honorably served in the US Navy. Following a brief time with Seaboard Railroad, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Massagee in 1954. Earning a degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University in, he became a Registered Professional Engineer with the Structures Division of the Florida DOT. Following his retirement, he became an over the road trucker.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had a love of walking, traveling and flying small engine aircraft. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley M. Napier, daughters, Susan Napier Bauman and Sandra Napier Kerr (her husband, Roby Morton Kerr, Jr.); grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Bauman, Justin Michael Bauman, Garrett Andrew Bauman, Madison Alexandra Kerr and Harrison Napier Kerr.
Preceding him in death are his parents and his siblings, George Washington Napier, Martha Thore Napier, Ruby Edythe Napier Lawrence, George Kenesis Napier, Harry Wayne Napier, Floyd Eugene Napier, and Ida Josephine Napier Brown.
