Samuel Eliot Braziel, Jr., 81, of Waco, Texas, retired Mental Health Social Worker and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, died December 28, 2018, at Methodist Hospital, The Woodlands from cardiac arrest following a viral illness. Samuel was born October 4, 1937, in Temple, TX, to Imogene Hunt Braziel and Samuel Eliot Braziel, Sr. He was one of 10 children, married four times and fathered six children. He was preceded in death by both parents, three siblings, and one child. He graduated from Temple’s Dunbar High School, and worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Company and Scott & White Hospital’s Psychiatric Services before moving to Waco where he worked many years for the Heart of TX Region MHMR Center. He moved to Houston in 2013. He is survived by one brother, four sisters, 5 children (Larry W. Wheeler of Houston, Gye A. Braziel of Houston, Samon Braziel of Temple, Samuel E. Braziel III of Lake Jackson, and Jordan A. Braziel of Houston), five grandchildren, and many nieces/nephews. He loved sports (especially football), card games/dominoes, Chivas Regal scotch, Polo cologne, rare steak, red wine, exotic leather boots, philosophical discussions, and the attention of women (all women). He fancied himself a true chef on the charcoal grill and did make extraordinary barbecued ribs. He spoke convincingly of his intention to be immortal and we are sad that turned out to not be true. The family will celebrate his life in a private memorial this Saturday, Jan. 19th, 2019. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends.
