Samuel E. May, age 94, of May Road, Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, while in his home after a prolonged illness.
Sam was born on September 1, 1927, in Rowan County, a son of the late Henry and Jessie Johnson May. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, Philip Charles May and Keith May; seven brothers, Hershel May, James May, Murl May, George May, Fred Puckett, Jerry May, and Arlie Sherman May; one sister, Janice Parker; and a special niece, Angela May Brumley, as well as many other family members whom he loved.
On November 4, 1950, Sam married the love of his life, Maxine Thompson May, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary. In addition to his loving wife Maxine, he is survived by one daughter, Rita May Treida (Steve) of Battle Ground, Indiana; two grandsons, Jason Treida and Dustin Treida (Jamie); and three great grandchildren, Noah Treida, Kinsey Treida and Brylon Kelly.
Other survivors include four brothers, Vernon May, Lansford May, and John May, all of Morehead and Tony Puckett of Union City, Indiana; two sisters, Eulalia Blevins and Alice Raikes, both of Morehead, in addition to many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sam worked many years as a logger and at various sawmills in Indiana. He later returned to Morehead in 1963 to take over the family tobacco farm and remained there until his passing. Sam had a great love for all of his family and a special bond with each one. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew him simply as “Grandpa Tucky.”
Sam was a man of the Lord who loved to read the Bible on a daily basis. He was an humble man who wanted to be remembered as being saved by the Grace of God.
