Samuel Dale Flohr of Grafton passed away peacefully in his sleep at United Hospital Center on the evening of November 14, 2022. He was 82 years old. Born May 18, 1940, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Samuel was raised in the Wickwire area of Grafton. Following graduation from Grafton High School in 1958, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps before marrying his high school sweetheart, Wanda Lee Robinson. The Flohrs moved to California where Samuel graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California.
The Flohrs returned to Grafton in 1968 where they raised their four children, and Samuel worked as railroad engineer for CSX Transportation for over thirty years. After retirement Samuel farmed in the Cherry Run area of Grafton. An avid hunter, he spent numerous vacations successfully hunting and fishing in Alaska. An active Lutheran, Samuel regularly attended church at both the Church of the Covenant, Grafton, West Virginia, and Saint Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Aurora, West Virginia.
Samuel Flohr was preceded in death by his first wife Wanda Lee (Robinson), parents George Samuel and Dorothy Iva (Rogers) Flohr, his brothers William Ray Flohr, Donald L. Flohr and wife Alfreda, Richard “Wayne” and wife Sharon, Charles “Eddie” Flohr, Vernon D. Flohr, and sisters Elizabeth Marie Flohr and Jean Satterfield.
Samuel is survived by his wife June; four children, Colonel (Retired) Douglas Lonn (Christina) Flohr of Grafton, Matthew Jon Flohr of Grafton, Michaela Lee Flohr of Winter Garden, Florida, Autumn Ashley (Daniel) Young of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Rhianna Kelsey (Patrick Thompson) Flohr, Major Samuel Isaiah (Courtney) Flohr, First Lieutenant Benjamin Augustus Flohr, Mattie Ashlyn Danae Flohr, McKenzie Wanda Dae Flohr, Gabriel John Young, Isaac Michael Young, and Samuel Joseph Young; five great grandchildren, Jackson Douglas Flohr, Wesley Isaiah Flohr, Adeline Fay Flohr, Atticus Fox Flohr-Thompson, and Elora Grey Flohr-Thompson; one brother George W. Flohr of Grafton; four sisters, Carrie (Bob) Griffith of Florida, Linda (Larry) Reed, Barbara Huffman, both of Grafton, and Kay (Terry) Mayfield of Flemington; two sisters-in-law, Karen Lee Flohr, Grafton, and Dianna Flohr of Bridgeport; also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
Samuel will be greatly missed by his family.
