Samuel Bryan Elyard, 87, of Clarksburg passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at United Hospital Center.
He was born June 22, 1928 in Franklin, WV; son of the late Charles and Clara Moyers Elyard. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Sam is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Ina Elyard; one son, Michael and Beth Lauber Elyard of Morgantown; two daughters, Brenda Hyman of Easton, PA, Jackie Lea Cheatwood of Canton, OH; one grandson, Spencer and Lauren Black Elyard of Callaway, MD. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
Sam graduated from Franklin High School in 1947 and the State Police Academy in 1952. He was a volunteer fireman in Franklin, WV from 1944-1946; Sergeant at Arms from 1946-1947. He was a United States Navy veteran; where he worked as an Aircraft Engineer Mechanic at the Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Honolulu, HI. He was a member of the Bethel Church of the Brethren of Petersburg, WV.
